Lunokhod 2

Lunokhod 2 was a big robot that went to the Moon from Earth a long time ago, in the 1970s. It was sent by people from Russia, also called the Soviet Union. The robot was very clever, it had wheels to help it move around the Moon, and it was controlled by people back on Earth who sent it commands.

The Lunokhod 2 went to explore the Moon and take pictures of everything around it, like rocks, mountains and craters. It had a special instrument called a spectrometer that could measure what the rocks were made of. The robot had a camera too, like your phone or tablet, that it used to take lots of pictures and send them back to Earth so people could see what it was doing.

The Lunokhod 2 had a special solar panel on its back to get energy from the Sun, because there's no electricity on the Moon. This helped it move around and do all the things it needed to do.

The robot was very smart, but it didn't have any people inside it. It was a bit like a remote control car, but instead of playing with it on your living room floor, it was driving around on the Moon! Even today, the Lunokhod 2 is still on the Moon, waiting for someone to come and visit it.
