Månglare

A Månglare is a Swedish term that refers to a person who used to work at a laundry. When people used to wash their clothes by hand, it was really hard and took a lot of time. So people would bring their dirty clothes to the laundry and the Månglare would wash them.

Nowadays, we use washing machines but back then, there were no washing machines. So the Månglare would wash the clothes in big tubs filled with soapy water. They would then squeeze out the excess water with their hands and roll the clothes into a bundle.

The bundle was then put through a machine called a mangle, which squeezed out even more water and flattened the clothes. This made it a lot easier to dry and iron the clothes.

So, a Månglare was really important to have around if you didn't want to spend all day washing your clothes by hand. They made life easier for people by doing the hard work for them.
