ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

MUD terminology

Mud is a mix of soil, water, and other materials that can be found on the ground. People who work with mud have special words they use to talk about it. Here are some of those words:

1. Clay - This is a very sticky kind of soil that is often used to make things like pots and vases.

2. Loam - This is kind of soil that is great for growing plants because it has just the right amount of water and nutrients in it.

3. Silt - This is a very fine kind of soil that can make things like water murky and dirty.

4. Slurry - This is when mud is so wet and watery that it looks like a soup.

5. Sediment - This is the solid stuff that settles at the bottom of a container when you mix water and mud together.

6. Cohesion - This is how well mud sticks together. If it has good cohesion, it sticks together well and can be shaped easily, like clay.

7. Flocculation - This is when mud particles stick together in groups, kind of like a gang, and float around in the water.
