Makhnovshchina

Makhnovshchina was a movement in Ukraine in 1917-21 when peasants and workers rebelled and demanded more freedom, democracy and control over their own lives. It was led by a man called Nestor Makhno, and his followers were called "Makhnovites". The Makhnovites fought against the Russian government and its army, as well as against other forces such as the White Army. They wanted the people of Ukraine to have the freedom to make their own decisions and to determine their own fate. They also wanted social and economic justice for the people of their country. Makhnovshchina lasted for about four years and eventually was crushed by the Red Army. However, the legacy of the Makhnovites' struggle for freedom and democracy continues to this day in Ukraine.
