Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, in a land called France, there was a very important king named Louis XIV. He was so important that he was the king of all of France!
Now, one day, a rumor started spreading throughout the land. People were talking about a man in a scary mask who was being kept locked up in prison. No one knew who he was or why he was being kept there.
Eventually, people started to realize that the man in the mask was actually the twin brother of the king, Louis XIV! The king didn't want anyone to know that he had a twin because he was afraid that his brother might try to take the throne away from him. So he decided to keep him locked up in a really big castle and always make him wear a scary iron mask so that no one would recognize him.
The man in the mask was very sad and lonely because he couldn't leave his prison and no one would ever talk to him. Eventually, he passed away and no one really knows what happened to his brother, the king. But this story has been told for many years, and people still wonder if it was really true or not!
