Mantel clock

A mantel clock is a type of clock that sits on top of a flat surface, usually a shelf or a piece of furniture called a mantel. Think of it like a little machine that tells you what time it is, but it's small enough to fit on a piece of furniture in your house.

Mantel clocks usually have a face, which is the part that you can see and has numbers on it. The numbers show what time it is using minute and hour hands. The hands move around the face of the clock and point to the numbers to let you know what time it is.

Mantel clocks are usually powered by either a battery or by winding them up manually. When you wind up a mantel clock, you are turning a key that makes a spring inside the clock tight. This spring then slowly unwinds, powering the clock's movement and helping it keep time accurately.

Some mantel clocks also have chimes, which can play a tune or sound to mark the hour or quarter-hour. These chimes make a musical sound that can add some extra music and joy to your home.

So, in summary, a mantel clock is a small machine that sits on a flat surface and tells you what time it is using hands to point to numbers on the clock face. It can be powered by a battery or winding it up, and some even have chimes to add a musical touch.
