ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

March 1st Movement

March 1st Movement was like a big protest that happened in Korea a long time ago, when people wanted to be in charge of their own country. Many years ago, Korea was under the control of another country called Japan. Korean people didn't like this and wanted to have their own country where they could make their own laws and make decisions for themselves.

On March 1st, 1919, many Korean people got together in public places and started to march and shout things like "We want independence!" and "Japan, go back to your own country!" They wanted to show everyone that they could stand up for themselves and make their voices heard. It was like a big party, but instead of balloons and cake, people were waving flags and singing songs.

However, the Japanese government didn't like this protest and tried to stop it by hurting and punishing people who were involved in the protest. They even arrested some people and sent them to jail for a long time. But this didn't stop the Korean people from fighting for their independence.

Finally, after a lot of hard work and fighting, Korea was able to gain its independence from Japan many years later. The March 1st Movement helped to show the world that Korean people were strong and brave and that they could fight for what they believed in.
