Korea is a country in Asia. It is split into two parts. The northern part of Korea is called North Korea, and the southern part is called South Korea. A long time ago, around 2,000 years ago, a kingdom called the Goguryeo kingdom was formed in Korea. It was one of the first powerful kingdoms in the region. Over time, other kingdoms were formed in Korea and the Goguryeo Kingdom fell. For the next few centuries, Korea was split into 3 different kingdoms. In the 1600s, a strong kingdom called the Joseon dynasty was formed. This kingdom lasted for more than 500 years and strengthened Korea's culture and people. In 1910, Japan took control of Korea, and it stayed under Japan's rule for 35 years. After World War 2 ended, Korea was again divided into 2 parts - North and South Korea. North Korea is now a communist country and South Korea is a democracy. For 70 years now, both Korea's have been politically and economically different from each other.
