Mars 2020 is a spacecraft that is going to Mars, a planet that is far away from Earth. It is designed to take pictures, collect samples of rocks and dirt, and look for signs of past life. It will be launched in July 2020 and should arrive at Mars about six months later. After it gets to Mars, it will explore the surface for about one Martian year (equivalent to two Earth years) and then return to Earth with its samples. Scientists hope that the samples and data collected by Mars 2020 will help us learn more about the Red Planet's history and help us look for signs of past life and the possibility for life to exist there now.
