Mathematical optimization

Mathematical optimization is when mathematicians use equations to find the best way to do something. For example, let's say you have 3 bags of candy and you want to know the best way to divide them between 10 friends. Mathematical optimization would help you figure out the best way to divide the bags so that each person gets the same amount of candy. To solve the problem, mathematicians would use equations to find the best solution.
