Matres and Matronae

Matres and Matronae are ancient goddesses that were worshiped by the people of Gaul, Britain, and other Celtic regions in Europe. They were seen as protectors of fertility, childbirth, and the wellbeing of families.

Think of them as big sisters who make sure everyone in a family is happy and healthy. They were often portrayed as three women standing together, holding hands or with their arms around each other.

People would offer them gifts and prayers, asking for help with things like having a healthy baby, getting along with siblings, and staying safe. The Matres and Matronae were believed to have special powers to make good things happen.

Today, we can see their influence in the symbols and traditions of modern-day religions, including Christianity. So, even though they were worshiped a long time ago, their legacy lives on.
