Matzoon is a special kind of yogurt that is made from milk and small, helpful bacteria called cultures. To make matzoon, first milk is heated up and then cooled down to a temperature that is just right for the helpful bacteria to grow in it. Then the bacteria are added to the milk and left to do their job. As the bacteria grow, they transform the milk into a thicker, tangier and sweeter substance, which we call matzoon.
Matzoon is believed to have originated in Armenia thousands of years ago and is now enjoyed in many parts of the world. Sometimes it is eaten plain or mixed with fruit, nuts, or other tasty treats. Matzoon is very good for you as it is filled with helpful bacteria that can aid in digestion and boost your immune system.
