Mead

Hey there kiddo! So do you know what honey is? It's a sweet, sticky and golden liquid that bees make from flowers. Mead is a drink that is made from honey!

First, the honey is mixed with water and then yeast is added. Yeast is like a magical ingredient that starts to do a very special thing called "fermentation". This means that the yeast starts to eat up the sugar in the honey and releases bubbles called carbon dioxide. Kind of like how you blow bubbles in a drink with a straw.

As the yeast eats up the sugar it also produces a little bit of alcohol. And do you know what alcohol is? It's something adults drink that makes them feel a little bit different than usual. But don't worry, you're too young for that.

After a few days or weeks, the yeast finishes doing its job and all the bubbles stop. Now the drink is ready but it's not so sweet anymore because the yeast has eaten up all the sugar in the honey. Sometimes, people add fruits or spices to make it taste better.

Then everyone can drink the mead! Some people like it still, meaning without bubbles, while others like it fizzy, like soda. It's a fun drink to make and enjoy with friends. But remember, it's only for grown-ups!
