ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Mechanical splice

A mechanical splice is like putting a puzzle together! Let's say you have two pieces of fiber optic cable that you want to connect (like two puzzle pieces). Instead of gluing them together, which could be messy and might make it hard to take apart later, you can use a special tool to snap them together (like putting two puzzle pieces together). This tool helps the two pieces of cable fit perfectly and stay in place. Voila! You have connected your cables using a mechanical splice.
