Medical model of disability

The medical model of disability is a way of thinking about people with disabilities. It views disabilities as something wrong with the person that needs to be fixed by a doctor or medical treatment. People with disabilities are seen as needing special help and their disabilities are seen as their problem to solve. The medical model of disability focuses on what is wrong with the person, rather than how society can be changed so that everybody, including people with disabilities, can participate fully in society.
