Memory and trauma

Okay kiddo, did you ever have something bad happen like falling down and hurting yourself? Well, our brains have a way of remembering things like that so we can try to avoid getting hurt again. But sometimes, really scary or bad things happen to people that can make them feel really sad or scared for a long time.

This is called trauma. Trauma can happen from things like car accidents, natural disasters, and bullying. When something traumatic happens, our brains can get stuck in remembering it over and over again, even if we don't want to.

It's like a loop that keeps playing in your head, and it can make you feel really upset and scared, even if the bad thing is over and you are safe now.

The good news is that there are people who can help you feel better and work with your brain to make the loop stop playing so much. They might use things like talking to you, doing fun activities, or exercises to help you feel calmer and take your mind off the bad thing.

Remember, you are always allowed to ask for help if something is bothering you or making you feel scared or upset. There are people who care about you and want to help you feel better.
