Metallicity distribution function

Metallicity distribution function is a graph that shows how many stars of different sizes and temperatures are in a certain place in outer space. It helps scientists understand what kinds of stars are in that place, and how their temperatures and sizes vary. By looking at the graph, we can see how much metal (like iron, nickel or gold) is in those stars. The higher the metallicity, the more metal is inside the stars. This helps to figure out how old the stars are, or if they have originated from the same area. Metallicity distribution functions are an important tool for astronomers as it helps them to better understand our universe!
