ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Michael Sendivogius

Michael Sendivogius was a really smart man who lived a long time ago, when people didn't know as much about science as we do now. He was born in Poland in the 16th century, which is a really, really long time ago.

Michael was really, really interested in alchemy, which is like magic but with chemicals instead of wands and spells. He spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to turn metals like lead into gold, which people wanted to do because gold was really valuable.

Michael was really good at alchemy and he wrote a lot of books about it. He even worked for some really important people, like the king of Poland and the emperor of Germany. He also taught other people about alchemy, so they could try it too.

Michael was really famous for being able to make a special substance called the "philosopher's stone." This substance was supposed to be able to do all kinds of amazing things, like make people live forever, turn lead into gold, and even cure diseases.

Some people didn't believe that the philosopher's stone was real, but Michael said he had made it many times and that it was definitely real. He also said that he knew a lot of other secrets about alchemy that he couldn't tell people because they were too dangerous.

Even though Michael was really famous for his alchemy, he wasn't always very popular with the people he worked for. Sometimes they didn't believe him or they thought he was wasting their money. But Michael didn't give up, and he kept working on his alchemy until he died.
