Millerites

Millerites were a Christian religious group that started in the 1830s in the United States. The leader of the Millerites was a minister named William Miller. He taught that Jesus was coming soon and the world would end in 1843 or 1844. Miller's followers stopped doing many things and instead spent a lot of time trying to figure out the date for Jesus's return. On October 22, 1844, Miller convinced some of his followers that Jesus was coming that day. A lot of Millerites gave up their jobs and homes to wait for Jesus to return that day. But Jesus did not come, and Miller and his followers were very disappointed. They were called Millerites ever since. Miller died in 1849, but some Millerites still follow his teachings today.
