ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Million standard cubic feet per day

A long time ago, people discovered that we can get energy by burning things like natural gas.

When we burn natural gas, it creates a gas which we can use to make things like electricity. But we need to know how much gas we have so we know how much energy we can get.

So, people came up with a way to measure the amount of gas we have. They measure how much gas we have in terms of how much we would have if we had enough gas to fill up a really, really big container called a "standard cubic foot".

Now, sometimes we need to know how much gas we have in a day. Like, maybe we need to know how much gas we can use to make electricity in one day. So, we say "million standard cubic feet per day" (or "MSCFD" for short) to describe how much gas we have in one day.

It's kind of like measuring how much milk you drink in a day. If you drank one gallon of milk every day, we would say you drink "one gallon of milk per day". But if you drank one million gallons of milk every day, we would say you drink "one million gallons of milk per day".

So, "million standard cubic feet per day" tells us how much gas we have in one day.
