ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Moro people

Moro people are a group of people who live in the southern part of the Philippines. They are different from other people in the country because of their religion, culture, and language. Their religion is Islam, which means they worship Allah and pray five times a day. They also follow specific rules such as fasting during the month of Ramadan and giving to the poor.

Moro people have their own traditional clothing, music, and food. They wear colorful dresses called malong or sari-sari and like to decorate their homes with weaved mats, brass gongs and other ornaments. They like to eat dishes like pulutan (a type of appetizer), lechon (roasted pig), and halal food (food that follows Islamic dietary laws).

Moro people have their own language which can be difficult for others to understand. They use a mixture of Arabic, Malay, and other local languages. They also have their own writing system called Jawi which is based on the Arabic script.

In the past, Moro people fought against the Spanish and American colonizers who came to their land. They wanted to keep their way of life and religion. They also wanted to keep their land, which they believed was theirs. Today, they still face challenges like discrimination and lack of opportunities in education and employment. However, they continue to be proud of their culture and traditions.
