Hello there! So, there was a thing that happened in 1871 called the Mudan Incident. It all started when some Americans decided to go on a ship to Taiwan and look for a place to trade goods. But, when they got there, they didn't like how the people in Taiwan were treating them and wanted to leave.
Now, there was a group of warriors called Paiwan who lived on the island of Taiwan. They didn't like the Americans being there either, and they wanted to protect their land. So, they decided to attack the Americans and their ship. It was a really big fight, with lots of people getting hurt on both sides.
Eventually, some other Americans heard about what happened and came to help. They brought some big guns and used them to scare away the Paiwan warriors. The Americans took the injured people back to their own country and the Paiwan warriors were left to try and recover from the fight.
Afterwards, both sides tried to make peace with each other. The Americans apologized for coming to Taiwan without permission and the Paiwan forgave them. They even formed a treaty between their two countries which promised that if anything like this ever happened again, they would try to solve it without violence.
So, the Mudan Incident was a big fight between some Americans and the Paiwan warriors over who had the right to trade goods on the island of Taiwan. It ended with some people getting hurt but both sides making peace and promising to be better in the future.
