Muktuk

Muktuk is a traditional and popular food in Inuit culture. It is made from the thick layer of fat and skin that covers the whale's body, which is called blubber.

Now imagine you have a big piece of fat (like the piece of fat around the edge of your steak) covering your whole body. This piece of fat is very important for the whale because it helps them to stay warm in the very cold Arctic waters.

When it's time to hunt whales for food, the Inuit people will cut off the layer of fat and skin from the whale. They will then cut this layer into small pieces that are often chewed raw or cooked with different spices or seasonings.

Just like how you might like to have seasoning or sauce on your chicken or other meats, the Inuit people often have a special sauce made with salt and sometimes even berries to go with their muktuk.

Muktuk is an important part of Inuit culture and has been eaten for thousands of years. It is very rich in nutrients and helps the Inuit people to stay strong and healthy in their harsh Arctic environment.
