ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Multiple intelligences

Imagine that you and your friend are both really good at playing soccer, but your brother is really good at playing piano. People have different types of smarts or "intelligences" that makes them good at different things. For example, some people are good at talking or writing stories, while others are good at understanding math or solving puzzles.

There are 8 different types of intelligences that scientists have discovered: linguistic (talking and writing), logical-mathematical (math and reasoning), spatial (thinking in pictures and images), bodily-kinesthetic (movement and physical activity), musical, interpersonal (relationships and understanding others), intrapersonal (self-awareness and understanding yourself), and naturalistic (interest and understanding of nature and the environment).

So, just like how your friend might be good at soccer and your brother is good at piano, different people are good at different things because they have different types of intelligences! It's important to know that just because someone might not be good at one type of intelligence doesn't mean they aren't smart in other ways. Everyone has their own unique combination of multiple intelligences!
