Mycoestrogens

Do you know that there are some things in the world that can act like hormones in our body? They are called mycoestrogens (my-ko-es-tro-gens).

So, when we talk about hormones, we mean chemicals in our body that help control lots of different things like how much we eat, how much we grow, and lots of other important things.

Mycoestrogens are a type of chemical that come from certain kinds of fungi (mushrooms and molds). They can act like estrogen in our body, which is a hormone that mostly girls have. Estrogen helps girls grow up and become women.

But sometimes, too much of these mycoestrogens can cause problems for both boys and girls. That's because our bodies can get confused and think they have too much estrogen, which can cause all kinds of different problems.

Some scientists are studying mycoestrogens to try to learn more about them and figure out safe ways to use them. But for now, it's important to be careful about eating too many foods that have these chemicals in them.
