ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

NATO reporting name

When countries around the world create new planes, tanks, and other tools to help them in wars, they often give them special names so that they can easily talk about them. However, different countries might use different names for the same thing, and this can be confusing.

To solve this problem, a group of countries formed an organization called NATO (which stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization). This organization agreed to use a common set of names for military equipment, called NATO Reporting Names.

For example, let's say Russia creates a new bomber plane that they call the "Bear." NATO might give it the name "Blackjack." This way, when NATO countries talk to each other about the plane, they can use the same name instead of getting confused about which plane they're talking about.

Using these NATO reporting names helps countries communicate better with each other, which is important in times of war or conflict.
