ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Naming rights

Naming rights is like when you get to name something really big, like a building or a sports stadium. It's kind of like when you get to name your new pet, but on a much bigger scale. Sometimes a company or a person will pay a lot of money to put their name on a big thing so that everyone knows they helped make it.

So if you go to a soccer game, instead of saying "let's go to the soccer stadium," people might say "let's go to the Adidas Stadium." Adidas is the company that paid money to have their name on the stadium.

Sometimes, people don't like it when something they know and love gets a new name because someone paid for it. But other times, it can help make something even better because the money from naming rights can help fix things up and pay for things like new seats or better bathrooms.
