Nanfan Treaty

Okay kiddo, so a long time ago, there were two countries called China and Britain. They didn't always get along very well but they decided to make a treaty, which is like an agreement, so they could trade with each other. This treaty was called the "Nanjing Treaty" or the "Nanfan Treaty."

In this treaty, China gave Britain some things like the island of Hong Kong and allowed them to trade in five different cities. But in exchange, Britain had to stop selling a drug called opium in China. Do you know what opium is? It's a very dangerous drug that can make people feel really sick and make them want more and more of it.

Unfortunately, even though Britain promised to stop selling opium, they didn't. This made the Chinese people very angry and the two countries had some more conflicts. But that's a different story for another day!

Overall, the Nanjing Treaty was an important agreement between China and Britain that helped them trade with each other. But it also had some problems because Britain didn't keep their promise to stop selling opium.
