Nata de piña

Nata de piña is a yummy and chewy snack that is made from pineapples!

To make nata de piña, first we cut pineapples into itty bitty pieces. Then, we mix them with some special bacteria called "Acetobacter xylinum" and "Acetobacter xylinoides" that loves to eat sugar. We put this mixture into a container and let it sit for a while.

As the bacteria eat the sugar in the pineapples, they make a slimy substance called "cellulose". This is the same stuff that plants and trees are made of! We let the bacteria keep eating and making cellulose until it forms a big, jelly-like sheet.

We take this sheet out of the container and cut it into pieces. These pieces are then soaked in some sweet syrup for a while, so that they can absorb all the yummy flavors. Finally, they are ready to eat!

Nata de piña is not only delicious, but also very healthy. It has lots of fiber and is low in calories. So the next time you want a snack, remember that nata de piña is a tasty and nutritious option!
