ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

National Alliance on Mental Illness

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is like a special club for people who want to help other people. People who are part of NAMI want to make sure that people who have problems with their feelings and thoughts (this is called "mental illness") get the help they need to feel better.

It's like when you have a cold, you might take medicine to help you feel better. If you have a problem with your thoughts or feelings, NAMI helps you find the medicine (or other things) that can make you feel better.

NAMI is made up of people who care about others and want to make a difference. Some people are doctors, some people are nurses, and some people are just regular people who want to help. They teach others about mental illness and what to do if they or someone they know are struggling.

NAMI helps to create safe places for people with mental illness and their families to talk about their experiences and feelings. They also help to fight against any unfairness or discrimination that people with mental illness might face.

In short, NAMI is a special club that wants to help people who are feeling sad or confused, and they work hard to create understanding and support for those who might need it.
