ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

National Association of Insurance Commissioners

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC for short) is like a club for the people who make the rules for insurance in America.

Just like how your classroom might have rules about what you can and can't do, each state in America has rules for how insurance should work. Sometimes these rules are different in different states, which can be confusing for people who live or do business in more than one state.

That's where the NAIC comes in. We have a group of experts who study these different state rules and work together to make recommendations about what should be done to make things easier and fairer for everyone.

They do lots of things, like creating model laws that states can choose to adopt, keeping track of industry trends and issues, and helping consumers understand their rights when it comes to insurance.

Think of the NAIC like a big, helpful group of friends who are trying to make sure that everyone who needs insurance (like your family, maybe) can get it easily and without any confusion.
