ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Okay kiddo, have you ever watched the weather forecast on TV or heard someone talking about hurricanes and storms? The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOOA for short, is the organization in charge of predicting and studying everything related to the ocean and the sky.

Think of it like a really big group of scientists and experts who work together to help keep us safe from bad weather and other things that could harm us. They use special tools and equipment to measure things like temperature, wind speed, and air pressure to create maps and models that show where big storms might happen.

NOAA also helps protect marine life like fish, whales, and sea turtles by making sure humans don't overfish and pollute the ocean too much. They work with other countries too, since the ocean and sky don't just affect us in the United States - they can impact people all over the world.

We're really lucky to have NOAA keeping an eye on the weather and ocean for us, because it helps us prepare for big storms and know when we need to stay safe indoors. Overall, they do a lot to make sure we can enjoy our lives without worrying too much about the weather or our environment.
