ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Native language

Your native language is the first language you learn to speak when you are a baby. You learn it from people around you, like your mommy and daddy, family members, and other people you see every day. This language is special because it's the one you are most comfortable speaking and understanding. Just like how you have a special toy or favorite food, your native language is something that makes you feel comfortable and safe. Some people learn more than one language, but they will always have one that is their native language, which they learned first and understand the best.
