ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Nebula

Imagine looking up at the night sky and seeing a beautiful, colorful cloud that seems to be shimmering and glowing. That's called a nebula, and it's made up of gas and dust that clump together in space.

These gases and dust are leftovers from stars that exploded or died. When a star explodes, it sends its materials out into space. This is called a supernova. Sometimes, these materials gather together and form a nebula.

Nebulas are very big and can be many light years across! They come in different shapes and colors depending on what gases they are made up of. Some have bright pink or orange colors, while others are blue or green.

Even though they look beautiful and harmless from far away, if you were actually close to a nebula, it would be dangerous for humans to go inside because the gas and dust could harm us. But from here on Earth, we can enjoy their stunning beauty from a safe distance.
