Needle drop (audio)

Okay kiddo, have you ever played with a record player? You know how you put the needle on the record and music starts playing? Well, that needle is called a "needle drop".

When a person talks about "needle drop" in audio, they're usually talking about something similar but digital. It's like when you play a song on your music player and you can see the little line going across the screen, right? That line is called the "waveform" and it shows what the sound looks like.

When someone says "needle drop", they're usually talking about dropping the audio file onto that line, just like a needle would drop onto a record. This lets you listen to the audio and see what it looks like all at the same time.
