ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Netperf

Netperf is like a grown-up game where two players can test how fast they can send and receive information from each other's computers. They use special software that sends pretend messages back and forth, and then they measure how long it took for the messages to travel between their computers.

Just like how you try to run faster than your friend in a race, these players try to see which one's computer can send and receive messages faster. Sometimes they race on a short track, like sending messages to each other in the same room, and sometimes they race on a longer track, like sending messages over the internet to a faraway computer.

Netperf is important for grown-ups who need to make sure their computers can handle lots of traffic at once. They use it to check if their computer can send and receive messages quickly enough to keep up with all the people using their website or playing games with them online. It helps them make sure their computer can do its job fast and reliably!
