Neuroterus albipes

Okay, so you know how there are bugs called ants and oak trees that have these things called acorns, right? Well, sometimes a tiny little bug called the neuroterus albipes lays its eggs inside the acorn.

When the egg hatches, it releases a baby neuroterus albipes, and that baby eats the inside of the acorn. Eventually, the baby turns into an adult bug and leaves the acorn to find a mate and lay more eggs.

But here's the cool part: when the neuroterus albipes eats the inside of the acorn, it creates this special chemical that makes the acorn grow into a weird, lumpy shape. Scientists call these lumpy acorns "oak apples."

So even though the neuroterus albipes is just a small bug, it can have a big impact on the way an oak tree looks!
