New Wine into Old Wineskins

Okay kiddo, so you know how we have different containers for different things, right? Like we have a plate for food, a cup for drinks, and a bag for carrying things. Well, in the old times, people used skins of animals to store things like wine.

Now, imagine that you have an old wineskin that you've used to store wine many times in the past. It has become a bit brittle and stiff because it has been stretched and filled so many times. If you try to pour fresh new wine into this old and stiff wineskin, what do you think will happen?

That's right! The new wine will start to ferment and release gas, which will make the old and stiff wineskin stretch and expand. But because the wineskin has been stretched so much before, it won't be able to expand anymore. This means that the wineskin will burst open and spill all the new wine.

So, when people say "you cannot put new wine into old wineskins," what they mean is that you cannot put fresh new things into something that has already been used too much and cannot handle anymore. It's like trying to fit a big toy into a small toy box that is already full of other toys. It just won't work!
