When a baby is born, it is important to keep them safe and healthy. There are a few steps to take for newborn care and safety.

First, make sure your baby's sleeping area is free from clutter and the bedding is safe. A good mattress should be held up well and not be too soft. Sleeping with one of your baby’s blankets or toys can increase the risk of suffocating them, so make sure there is nothing around them that can put their safety at risk.

Second, make sure your baby is always protected in your care. When carrying your baby, always make sure their head is supported. Never leave a baby alone on a bed, sofa or table as they could easily fall off.

Third, make sure your home is baby proof. Move all dangerous items away, such as scissors, knives, or medicine. Make sure all areas that your baby can reach are safe, such as electrical outlets and cords.

Finally, make sure the people that are caring for your baby follow all safety guidelines. When your baby is in the bath, make sure they are watched at all times and that the bath water is not too hot. When your baby is being fed, make sure all bottles and nipples are clean and that the formula you are giving your baby is the right one for their age.
