Newfoundland

Newfoundland is an island in the far east of Canada, and it's a really cool place! It's not attached to the rest of Canada, so you have to take a boat or a plane to get there.

People have been living on Newfoundland for a very long time, like for thousands and thousands of years. The first people to live there were the Indigenous people called the Beothuk. Then, a long time ago, some people from Europe came over and started living there too. These people were mostly from England and Ireland, and they brought their own language and culture with them.

Newfoundland is a big island with lots of different landscapes. There are forests and mountains and beaches and bays. It's really pretty! And because it's an island, there are lots of fish and other sea creatures in the ocean around it.

People who live in Newfoundland are called Newfoundlanders, and they're known for being really friendly and hospitable. They love to eat fish and seafood, and they have their own kind of music that's called "Newfoundland music".

Even though it's part of Canada now, Newfoundland used to be its own separate place with its own government and everything. But in 1949, the people of Newfoundland voted to join Canada, so now it's one of the provinces of Canada.
