News desert

Okay kiddo, so you know how sometimes when we go on a car ride, we might pass through a really empty area with not many buildings or stores around? That's kind of like a "news desert."

A news desert is an area where there aren't many options for people to get information about what's happening in their community. Just like how there might not be many stores or restaurants in a desert, there aren't many places where people can read, watch, or listen to the news.

This means that people who live in news deserts might not know what's going on in their town or state, since they don't have access to news outlets like newspapers, TV stations or websites. This can be a big problem because people need to stay informed in order to make good decisions and stay safe.

So, some people are working to try and fix these news deserts by creating new ways for people to get their news. This might mean opening new newspapers or websites, or even starting podcast or video programs. That way, everyone can have the information they need to stay informed and connected to their community.
