But we can't just use the same units we use for numbers, like 1, 2, 3, etc. Instead, we use a special kind of unit called "cycles per sample", or Hz/sample for short.

This is where normalized frequency comes in. Normalized frequency just means that we take our Hz/sample value and divide it by something. What do we divide it by? We divide it by a number that tells us how often we sample the sound wave. Think of it like taking a picture of a moving object - if you take pictures more often, you'll get a better idea of how it's moving. Similarly, if we sample the sound wave more often, we'll get a better idea of its shape.

So, when we normalize our frequency, we're kind of "zooming out" and looking at the relative frequency of the sound wave compared to how fast we're sampling it. We can use this normalized frequency to do things like filter out certain frequencies or analyze the shape of the wave more easily.
