ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

North Korea's illicit activities

Okay kiddo, let's imagine you have a toy that you really like, but you don't have enough money to buy it. What can you do? You might ask your parents or grandparents for money, or you might do extra chores around the house to earn some extra money.

North Korea is a big country, but they don't have a lot of money. So, they might do some things that are illegal or not allowed by other countries to get the money they need. These are called "illicit activities".

One of the things North Korea does is make illegal drugs, like methamphetamine, which is a type of really dangerous drug. But, because it's illegal, other countries won't buy it from North Korea. So what do they do? They might sell the drugs to other countries secretly, or smuggle them in secret ways.

Another thing they do is counterfeit money, which means making fake money that looks like real money. This is a bad thing because it's against the law and can cause a lot of trouble for people who try to use the fake money.

They also sell weapons to other countries, which is very dangerous because it can lead to wars or conflicts. That's why other countries try to stop North Korea from doing these things.

So, when we talk about North Korea's illicit activities, we mean things that are illegal or not allowed by other countries that North Korea is doing to get money. And just like when you want to buy something but don't have enough money, North Korea is sometimes doing things that it shouldn't to get what it wants.
