ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

North-South research partnerships

When people who study things want to learn more, they sometimes work with other people who also study things. Sometimes, the people they work with live in different places around the world.

If the people who live far away are in a place that is not as well-off as where the others live, they might call that place the "South." They might call the place where they live the "North."

When people from the North work with people from the South, it's called a "North-South research partnership." This means that the people who live in the North help the people in the South learn more about things they both want to study.

Sometimes, the people in the South might not have the same tools or money to study things as the people in the North. But working together helps everyone learn more about the things they are interested in!
