Nut (hardware)

Okay, so you know bolts, right? They are those little metal sticks that have a thing called a "thread" on them. Basically, the thread is a bunch of little ridges that help hold the bolt in place when you screw it into something.

Well, a nut is kind of like a little cousin to the bolt. It's a small piece of metal that also has a thread on the inside of it. When you put the nut onto the bolt, and then tighten it with a tool like a wrench or pliers, it locks the bolt in place.

For example, if you wanted to attach a piece of wood to a wall, you might use a bolt with a nut. You would first drill a hole in the wood and the wall, and then put the bolt through the hole in the wood and into the hole in the wall. Then you would put the nut on the end of the bolt and tighten it with a wrench. This would hold the wood securely to the wall.

So, nuts are like tiny little helpers that work with bolts to keep things in place. Without them, bolts wouldn't be able to do their job as well.
