Onomastics

Onomastics is the study of names. It can mean different things. For example, it can mean the study of the history and meanings of names - like when people want to choose a name for a baby, they sometimes look at what onomastics says about the name they are considering. It can also mean the study of how names are used in different cultures or how they are spelled and pronounced.
