ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Optimization (mathematics)

Optimization (mathematics) is a way of making something as good as it can be. It's like a game where you have a set of rules and you try different solutions to make the best result you can. For example, you might be trying to make a machine that will make the most money in the shortest amount of time. To do this, you would think of different solutions, like getting more machines or getting more people to work on the machines, and then you would compare these solutions to see which one would give you the best result.
