The American Civil War was a war that was fought in the United States from 1861 to 1865. It was a war between the Northern states, which were called the Union, and the Southern states, which were called the Confederacy. The cause of the Civil War was disagreements between the North and South about slavery. Slavery was a system where some people owned other people who worked for them. The Southern states wanted to keep slavery, but the Northern states did not. So the Northern states decided to fight for a law that would end slavery in the United States. The Southern states did not want this and so they fought back. Eventually, the Northern states won and slavery was ended in the United States.
