Compensated emancipation

Compensated emancipation is when someone pays money (or another type of compensation) to someone else so that they can become free. This is usually done when a person is enslaved, meaning they are not allowed to do certain things or do not have the same rights as other people. When someone pays for a person to be emancipated, it means that the person is now free to do what they choose and have the same rights as everyone else.
