Orthogonal polynomials

Orthogonal polynomials are like normal polynomials, but they are special because they help mathematicians make their calculations easier. They are called "orthogonal" because when two of them are multiplied, the answer is usually zero. That means that mathematicians can use these polynomials to do lots of calculations at once. Think of orthogonal polynomials like little helpers that can do the hard work for you.
